Fueling the Next Generation with Hydrogen
There is so much to be done to conserve our planet that many are not aware of all the different kinds of ways we can conserve the energy and resources we use. For instance, everyone has seen renewable energy becoming more prominent in the form of windmills and solar panels, just to name a few. But a lesser-known alternative to fossil fuels is hydrogen fuel.
At the University of Surrey, researchers “have found that a type of metal-free catalysts could contribute to the development of cost-effective and sustainable hydrogen production technologies” (ScienceDaily). This has the potential to be a revolutionary means to make our society more efficient. This hydrogen fuel has the ability to power vehicles, generate electricity, and heat buildings. These 3 things alone would save a noticeable amount of energy and we would see results if we see hydrogen fuel start to emerge as a more popular option. The reduced carbon emissions would improve the issue of global warming and climate change as well. The only major problem that researchers noticed with hydrogen fuel is that it can get poisoned by carbon, but researchers find that nitrogen and phosphorus-doped nano carbons are a solution to this problem. With no other major setbacks, it is only a matter of time before we see hydrogen fuel become an integral part of society. More people need to be educated about the new types of renewable energy being made because the efficiency and effectiveness of these methods are only improving.
